Community Garden at Gibson Ranch Regional Park

We're excited to announce the opening of the new Community Garden at Gibson Ranch. The Community Garden is a welcoming space where nature, community and nourishment grow together. Beginning December 1, garden plots are available, and Regional Parks invites Sacramento County residents and their families to connect with the land, grow fresh produce, and help build a thriving, sustainable green space.

Located in the scenic 355-acre Gibson Ranch Regional Park with its open fields, trails and working-ranch character, the garden and adjacent food forest bring a new kind of community resource to the park.

Why this project matters:

  • Grow your own food: Gardeners will have opportunities to cultivate vegetables, herbs and edible flowers in designated plots, guided by clear gardener responsibilities and organic practices.

  • Share and connect: The adjacent Food Forest will feature fruit-bearing trees and native edible plants available for community stewardship and enjoyment.  We have started some of the basic plantings of trees, with more to come!

  • Build community & stewardship: Beyond individual plots, participants will help maintain common areas, pathways and the food forest – supporting a model of shared care and sustainable practice.

Key Highlights:

  • All gardening will be organic—no synthetic fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides permitted.

  • Garden plots are available to Sacramento County residents; non-residents may participate when space allows.

  • Open daylight hours: Garden use aligns with park hours (dawn to dusk) and emphasizes year-round maintenance and community upkeep.

  • 48 standard (roughly 20' x 20'), eight small (roughly 7.5' x 7.5') raised accessible, and four large (roughly 7.5' x 20') raised accessible plots

Whether you're an experienced gardener, a first-time grower, or someone looking to get outdoors and build connections, this garden is for you. Registration is now open!  Stay tuned for volunteer workday schedules, development of an advisory committee, and join us in making this place bloom!
