American River Parkway - Ancil Hoffman Park

Welcome:

The park, dotted with ancient oaks and bordered on two sides by the American River, is home to the renowned Effie Yeaw Nature Center. Walk among reconstructed Maidu Indian homes or hit a bucket of golf balls at the award-winning Ancil Hoffman golf course.

How to Get There:

  • Located on Tarshes Drive
  • From U.S. Highway 50, take the Watt Avenue off-ramp
  • Head north to Fair Oaks Blvd. and turn right
  • Follow Fair Oaks Blvd. to Van Alstine and turn right
  • Turn left onto California Ave., then right at the park entrance

Activities:

  • Trails - See a herd of deer or listen to the chirps and chatter of 100 bird species along the many trails.
  • Golf - Golf Digest named Ancil Hoffman Golf Course one of America’s top 75 courses. Shady even in the summer, the course houses a spacious clubhouse, restaurant and a trophy room.
  • Picnic - Reservations are required for groups more than 40, OR if alcohol, amplified sound or a bounce house will be present. Glass containers are not allowed and dogs are required to be on leashes throughout the park and may not enter the Nature Center.  Picnic Reservations may be made here

Hours and Fees:

Open year-round from sunrise to sunset, special event fees vary by event.

  • $7 Vehicle
  • $13 Vehicles with Trailer (ex. Boat or Horse) or RV
  • $28 Bus
  • Vehicle fees increase over Summer Holiday Weekends. ​

Additional Information:

Ancil Hoffman Park will remain closed through the end of July as the road and parking lot repair project continues. 

While the park remains closed to general vehicle traffic, access to the Ancil Hoffman Golf Course and Effie Yeaw Nature Center is still available. Limited parking is designated specifically for golf course and Nature Center visitors throughout July and visitors are urged to use caution while in the park as it is an active construction site. Full vehicle access to the park is expected to resume by late July/early August, once all parking areas are restored.​ To learn more, read our press release​
