Potential Dry Creek Parkway Disc Golf

Multi-Use Trail Closures and Detours

The lower multi-use trail will be closed from Campus Commons Golf Course to the "H" Street Bridge.  The upper levee trail will be open in this area. The Campus Commons Golf Course parking lot will be closed for construction site trailers. The multi-use trail is closed for a Caltrans project from just west of State Route 51 American River Bridge to the Union Pacific Rail crossing. A detour is in place​.

2024 Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Grant Application 

The Sacramento County Department of Regional Parks has submitted a preliminary grant application to the California State Parks Off-Highway (OHV) Division for an OHV Law Enforcement Grant. As part of the process, the grant is open for public review and comment.  You can review the application on the OHV website​​​​. Public comments must be submitted by May​ 6, 2024. Sailor Bar Improvements 

We have recently been completing some deferred maintenance to the un-improved roads and maintenance roads in Sailor Bar Park, consistent with the American River Parkway Plan Sailor Bar Area Plan Map.  We will be re-opening the un-improved roads as mapped out in the Parkway Plan.  While we have also completed some maintenance to the maintenance/emergency access roads, these will not be opened to the public. Upcoming Recreation and Parks Commission Meeting: November 30

The next Recreation and Parks Commission meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 30. An email went out today with the incorrect date. A correction has been sent out, but we just want to cover all our bases! We're sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

Cal Expo Cross Country Course and Trail Project

The Sacramento Running Association and Sacramento County Regional Parks propose to re-align the firebreaks within the Cal Expo Area of the American River Parkway. These trails will need to be between 12-25 feet in width, consistent with the former roads, firebreaks and trails. These trails would be to collegiate-level competition standards and serve local high school and youth running needs. Learn more by visiting the project webpage​. ​

Partial Trail Closure - Oct. 16 - 20​

The next trail overlay project will occur from Nimbus Hatchery to an area between MM 22.5 and MM 21.9. This work is expected to begin Monday, October 16, and finish by Friday, October 20. A detour is available​ along Nimbus Road.

Upcoming Music Festivals at Discovery Park 

The Aftershock and Golden Sky music festivals are coming to Discovery Park on Thursday, Oct. 5 – Sunday, Oct. 8 and Saturday, Oct. 14 and Sunday, Oct. 15, respectively. The American River Parkway Multi-Use (Bike) Trail will remain open for the general public to use and enjoy, though delays may occur. A slight trail detour will be in place​ starting Sept. 26 and will continue through about Oct. 20 for the safety of our trail users. The archery range and park through-road will also be closed to allow for large equipment and trucks to set up for the event. The Vehicle detour would be Interstate 5 or Northgate/Highway 160. The boat launch ramp area will stay open during the setup and tear-down of the events but will be closed for the duration of the Aftershock event. It will be open during the Golden Sky event.

Regional Parks Fee Schedule Update

The Department of Regional Parks is in the process of updating its Fee Schedule. The Department Fee Schedule establishes fees for park entry and facility use, and describes fee policies. The Fee Schedule is updated intermittently to: Adjust fees for inflation; ensure fees cover costs of services provided; standardize fees with similar facilities and services; and raise needed revenues to offset department maintenance and operations costs. To see how proposed entrance and annual pass fees compare to current fees, visit the Park Entrance Fees page​Vehicle and Trailer Day Use Fees are proposed to increase by $1; Annual Pass fees are proposed to increase by $10; Senior Citizen Annual Passes are proposed to increase by $5; and there is no change proposed to Low Income Annual Passes. A draft of the updated Fee Schedule can be found online​. To make a comment on the proposed Fee Schedule, email parksinfo@saccounty.gov​​. Public comments will be accepted through Oct. 15, 2023.​

Sol Blume music festival is coming to Discovery Park on Saturday, Aug. 19 and Sunday, Aug. 20! The Multi-Use Trail will remain open for the general public to use and enjoy, though delays may occur. A slight trail detour will be in place Monday, Aug. 14 - about Aug. 25. The archery range and park through-road will also be closed during this time to allow large equipment and trucks to set up for the event. Please see trail detour map​. The boat launch ramp area will be kept open during the setup and takedown of the event, but parking will be limited on Aug. 19 and 20. Multi-Use Trail Closure - Sunrise Rec Area 

The multi-use trail will be closed from Sunrise boat launch to the Jim Jones Bridge from July 31 - August 11. Please use S. Bridge Street as a detour. See Detour Map.

American River Parkway Multi-Use Trail Closure, July 15

The Great American Triathlon is coming to the American River Parkway on July 15. The American River Parkway Multi-Use Trail will be closed from Guy West Bridge upstream to Sunrise Avenue footbridge from 6 a.m. - 12 p.m. Additional race details are available on the race website​

Detour:
For the south side of the River: Sunrise Blvd > Coloma Road > Folsom Blvd. > Howe Avenue > Fair Oaks Blvd > H Street
For the north side of the River: Sunrise Blvd > Fair Oaks Blvd > H Street
